Compared to element selenium, nanostructured selenium particles showed lower toxicity to biological tissues. These selenium nanoparticles are good free radical scanvengers and exert strong cellular protection effect from oxidative stress. Biotin labeled selenium nanoparticles have high binding affinity towards streptavidin or avidin.
